What an interesting coupling. Right off the bat I'm struck by how Flavin's piece(s) lacks the opacity of Turner's. I've always found Turner's light to be heavy and threatening, maybe because I can only imagine what is on the other side. Meanwhile, Flavin's light seems more welcoming and less chaotic. His is an opening--a doorway, a gate--that draws me into it.
